TWD--Brioche Berry Tart

This weeks recipe for Tuesdays with Dorie was chosen by Denise of the blog Chez Us.

I only made half the recipe, baking it in two 4-inch tart pans. Not being a big fan of plums, I decided to use some cherries and blueberries that I had on hand. I used a cherry jam as well.

Dorie said the dough would be better after an overnight in the fridge, and that worked for me. Unfortunately, I didn't get to bake this for another day, but I don't' think that affected the outcome.

Here they are, ready to rest for 30 minutes before going into the oven

One pretty little tart

Vincent had to jump in for a photo op...even though he wouldn't even try a bite of my tart

I must admit that while these little tarts were resting for what was supposed to be a 30 minute period, bed time was upon us and my boys were ready...and I was even MORE ready. So, I left the room and came back about 40 minutes later. At this point, my tarts were out for a bit more than an hour and the brioche began to climb out of the pan and onto the cookie sheet.

I got them into the oven ASAP where I checked them at 15 minutes and they were looking good. I couldn't see the tart pans anymore, but they still looked good. Five minutes later, my brioche was super dark and I got scared. They seemed done to me, so I took them out of the oven. By this time, I was wiped, so I called it a day and looked forward to some fresh Brioche Berry Tart in the morning.

I cut into a tart before I got the camera out. I was anxious to give it a try.

See how dark? And simply enormous...there was a tart pan in there some where!

A little on the crunchy side.

Still good and pretty.

Overall, we did like this and Marc and I both thought it was a good breakfast treat. While I liked it, I think I'm more of a coffee cake or cookies for breakfast kinda girl and I don't know if I would make this again. Still...very tasty, though.

If you would like the recipe, please visit Denise's blog. And if you have a few minutes to spare, stop by TWD where you can find hundreds of other versions of this recipe absolutely with ogling and drooling over.

LOL - love the photo of Vincent, even if he wouldn't try any. The blueberries and cherries sound great. Most of us ended up with dark brioches, I think, but it didn't seem to affect the flavour (phew!).

Your tarts do look good, in spite of their adventures...and that picture of VIncent is worth baking for! :)

I envy your dough climbing out of the pan. Mine didn't rise nearly enough. Guess I'll have to try again.
Love your photos!

I think they look great - and the crunchy parts are always the best, aren't they?

Blueberries and plums, what a great idea!
They look delicious!

These look perfect, I love the way they devoured the tart pans! I used cherries in one of mine and really liked them with the brioche. I didn't go through all of the rising and slapping down so mine were more subdued. Vincent deserves a starring role, but tell him he needs to demonstrate how the dessert is eaten!

I think we were on the same wave lenght, although we definatly don't have the same baking talents! ...I would never risk it again (getting rock hard dough), so I made last year's galette.

But indeed... you can do it! Go girl! Bravo, Pamela... good for you!

I love the photo of Vincent...he's SO cute!

Your tart looks awesome...I didn't even consider blueberries. I sat this one out and made ribs instead.

The blueberries and cherries look soo inviting! I love the colors mixed together. I thought the dough would overflow my tart pan so I used a pie pan with a deeper dish instead. I'm a coffee cake type too!
Vincent is so cute! =)

These are ridiculously gorgeous! I wish I had more blueberries so I could make them right now!

Great job. Love the two little tarts. Cherries sound good. I ran out of time for this one, but will have to try it sometime.
I made a TWD Rewind cookie instead.
Cute little guy! Mine often won't try the things I make either. Some day we'll both "complain" that we can't keep up with how much our guys eat! ;)

The cherries and blueberries look like a great combination of flavors for this brioche. It was a bit finicky in the oven, but still tasted great.

I am glad you tried it though!

I skipped the brioche part and made a rustic plum tart instead . . . I like your berries idea. Might use that next time!

Awesome blossom job!

I wish that I did minis! Love the fruit you used in this. I'm with you - the flavors here were good, but I doubt I'll make it again. Oh well, it's always fun to try new things! And HOW CUTE IS VINCENT????

I love your combination of blueberries and cherries! Your tarts look amazing! I'm a bit late this week (making mine as we speak) and have been contemplating blueberries so I'm glad they worked out for you.

I think minis were the good way to go as this morning mine is soggy on the bottom from the fruit and I think with cutting into it made it more so as with minis you wouldn't have to cut into them all at once. Love your choice of fruit...and where is that pan???? Too funny.

I had the same problem. Scheduling kept me from getting them in the oven on time. Your berries look great and I think you liked more than me. Definitely a one shot deal for us.

Looks delicious with the berries! I love that you cut into it before you took a picture - that sounds like something I would do!

Your (supposedly) mini tarts look fantastic, blueberries and cherries sound like an ideal summer combination for this tart! I was happy for the overnight chilling time; I think I might have felt like this recipe took too long if I did it all in one day.

love the cherries in this, so cute. I'm with you on the coffee cake!

Sarah said...

My tart did quite a bit of creeping out of the pan, too, and got *very* brown, but it was still tasty. Yours look great, and the fruit combo sounds delicious!

Jacque said...

How funny about your monster brioche.

It does look tasty, that's for sure.

Jaime said...

wow that really did rise/overflow!! looks fabulous w/the cherries and blueberries though

Your "mini" tarts look wonderful! =) I still need to make this one. I'm glad to know that it works well with different fruits. I think I'm going to use some nectarines.

Pamela, I just made these today along with the blanc-Manger and I loved the brioche with fruit. I used peaches and apricots with almonds. It was wonderful and I'm glad you persevered and enjoyed a morsel.
You are so sweet to visit me. Thanks so very much. You really have lots of fun in your kitchen cooking for your family. Great job
