I baked this up on a rainy Thursday morning and the smell was wonderful. Prior to getting it all in the oven, I looked at my chopped mango and realized I had way less than the 2 cups called for by Dorie in the recipe. So, I decided to divide the batter in half, adding mangoes to one bowl and some frozen, chopped cherries that I had in my freezer.
I thought the cherries sounded really good with the lime zest, reminding me of the Dimply Cherry Cake I made for TWD back in September. I also added about a cup of chopped pecan pieces in place of the raisins.
The result was a moist and tender bread that I really enjoyed. I went for the cherry first, but had to try the mango and I must say that they were both delicious. I gave 1/2 of each loaf to my good friend, Michelle and her new husband as they started their 2 week vacation/honeymoon together. They have to come up for air sometime, right? (wink...wink!)For the recipe, please check out Kelly's really wonderful blog! And thanks Kelly, for a surprisingly tasty recipe choice. Wouldn't have made it without you! :o)

Love the sound of the cherry and pecan as well as the mango. I am so glad that you were surprised in a good way by this.Isn't TWD great that way?
Yours looks delicious! I healthified mine and it was still good, but I would have gone with the banana first. Give me a fresh mango instead of "mushing" it in a bread. ;)
Yours looks much better than mine. I am thinking now that maybe I cooked mine too long. Most likely not going to try again though.
I'm glad you ended up liking it. The cherry version sounds pretty good too
Your bread looks super yummy. Now I wasnt to try your cherry version of this.
I am glad you ended up liking it! I LOVED this one! The cherries sound like such a good bread as well!!!
That bread looks very tasty. I have made mango bread and just love it!
Great photos! The bread looks delightful!
I love the cherries- that looks great! I'm glad your bread was a hit and I need to tell you thanks. I stopped by your blog last night looking for something for dinner and made BBQ and the fries from Tyler and it was a hit and super simple- thanks! :)
Nice changes! Too bad I ate all the mango instead of actually baking it.
BTW - I'm following you on twitter now!
I am SO into cherries right now. Mostly because I can finally get them fresh. I'm putting them on/in everything.
oooOOOoo cherries! I'd love that version too! They both sound incredible to me. Glad that this was a hit, Pamela!
Anne-Your welcome! :o) Glad you found something good.
I love the addition of the cherries -- it sounds so seriously good. I was thinking that this bread would be so good with summer fruit. I need to rewind the dimply cake as soon as stone fruit comes into season because it seems like it was a big hit with everyone who made it.
Cherry pecan sounds like a great combo. The bread was a hit at my house - I had to stash it in the freezer before we - I mean me - devoured the whole thing.
I'm glad you liked it. Cherry sounds delicious too! Your pics are beautiful
I bet pineapple would be great in this too.
I'm glad you ended up liking it. Your loaf looks fantastic.
Love the cherry version! Sounds great!
WOW! Your breads look amazing! So rustic and chunky! The extra nuts I think, was a great, great idea.
Your bread looks great. Im glad you liked it. I thought it was a great recipe.
Love that you are warming up to mangoes! This looks awesome...
Looks delicious.
These sound like wonderful flavors in a bread- not quite savory but not quite dessert!
Both versions sound very good! I love mangos and I love cherries. You did a great job!
Your fresh mango and cherry bread look really delicious! I love the texture of the breads in your pictures.
Cherry sounds like it would be great in this bread. I didn't know what to expect from this either, but I liked it.
Yay, glad you ended up liking both of your variations! I like the idea of using cherries.
I'm still on the fence about plain mangoes but I did like this bread. Definitely better with nuts! Yours looks wonderful!
(ps nice to find you on Twitter!)
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the mango bread, as well. I love mango, so the bread sounds absolutely delicious to me! And I think your addition of cherries to the other half of the bread is genius. How totally fabulous! Great job.
Cheers to those Honeymooners!!! You are very thoughtful to offer them sustenance. They will love it. I agree about the circle of baking here at TWD. We do get to bake things we wouldn't choose. I always get a kick out that. I like your adaptations.

Ooh cherries and lime, that sounds wonderful!! Your bread looks great!
Ooh, i really like the sound of the cherries, yummy! This bread was so yummy, and addictive. Great job :)
your bread looks great. using cherries for this bread is a wonderful idea. next time i'll split the batter in two and do the same thing.
yumm--i love the cherry variation! i'm sure your friends will enjoy the bread during their celebrations:)
i'm glad you tried this! it was a huge hit w/my coworkers actually. i was pleasantly surprised
i love the idea of adding in cherries!
Cherries and pecans sound amazing! How sweet of you to share with your honeymooning friends. I'm so glad you ended up liking it!
Beautiful bread! Cherries sound great, too!
Wow, this bread looks terrific...moist and very tasty. Yummie!
Both versions look and sound wonderful...I just wanted to pick those cherries out and eat them just like that...love cherries. What a nice an thoughtful friend you are to share your bread...and what a wonderful thing to inspire someone to bake! All looks great.
How great for you to give the honeymooners some sustenance! Our breads came out looking alike. I know that sounds silly, but when I saw yours it looked just like mine before I sliced it up. Next time, I will try the cherries. Good idea!
Pamela, I am glad you tried both and that you liked them both. When I was making it I thought cherries would be a perfect substitution. I may have to try that soon.
Glad you tasted and enjoyed it! Your cherry variation sounds delicious too.
I'm glad you enjoyed the bread. It looks lovely!
Looks delicious!
I like raisins, but pecans sound good, too. Not that Brianna would eat them. *sigh*
It looks great, and it really seems like this bread adapts well to various combinations. It's always great when you like something more than you anticipate.
Yummy! Those cherries sounds wonderful. What a wonderful combo!
Smart thinking to divide the batter and go with a different fruit when you realized you were short on mango. My ability to think independently was stifled on this one. I did love the bread, which like you I wouldn't have made this on my own.
I love the idea of cherries -- it sounds delicious!
What a great idea to add in the cherries and pecans - yum!!
I love the idea of added in the dried cherries!! I'm sure the newlyweds enjoyed it too!! :)
Your bread looks great - the cherry was a great idea! I'm sure your friends will love it too!
I love your substitutions. I may have to try that too. I thought this this was a nice and quick recipe!
Cherries!! Perfect. Looks fantastic.
Everyone seems to have really enjoyed this bread - even though some were a little wary about the mango. Glad you enjoyed it! Yours turned out great!
Looks fantastic! I also added pecans - and they made it SO good. Glad you enjoyed making it. I also am not a mango person (first timer) - but am really glad I ventured outside the box and tried it. Everyone loved it - it's a great recipe is it not?
What a wonderful gift! Love the use of cherries and pecans too!
Pamela, you are a true trooper to make this, despite your lack of fondness for mangoes. :)
I did not add the raisins or nuts. But yours look good with the nuts.
I'm making it next time with bananas! Can't beat that.
